Motorola Edge 50 Neo debuts in India with Super HD display and five-year software support
Motorola's latest device for the Indian market is finished in "exceptionally elegant" vegan leather finished in the Pantone Curated Colors of Nautical Blue, Lattè (gold), Grisaille (gray) or Ponciana (red), yet is backed to have a "worry-free" MIL-STD-810H- and IP68-rated day-to-day experience.
Accordingly, its flat-edged chassis is also backed to last the user for years on the inside, as it is currently backed for class-leading software support with access to no less than 5 Android upgrades and 5 years of security patch updates.
The Neo is also a particularly compact addition to the Edge 50 series, with a display of 6.4 inches in diagonal length. Nevertheless, it packs specs once reserved for more expensive new Android smartphones, a 120Hz refresh rate, Always-on Display, HDR10+ and 100% adherence to the DCI-P3 color gamut included.
It also hits more trends with a relatively high peak brightness rating (2,800 nits in this case) and a 1.5K (or Super HD, according to the OEM) resolution.
The 50 Neo is also rated to go particularly well with Motorola's 68W Turbo Power brick, getting an estimated 12 hours of battery life out of just 11 minutes of charging.
However, these potential advantages imply a possibly significant drawback, which is that the 50 Neo can fit a battery of just 4,310mAh in rated capacity - an area in which it will fall far behind other new Dimensity 7300-powered smartphones, the Vivo V30e in particular.
That might be why the Sony LYTIA 700C-equipped Edge 50 Neo is now slated to go for just INR 23,999 (~$286, or about the same as the larger 50 Fusion on Amazon.in right now) with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage from its September 24, 2024 release.
