CMF by Nothing made its debut as a sub-brand focused on making "great design" more accessible. So far, the company has launched many accessories, and now, it has officially unveiled its very first smartphone, the CMF Phone 1. Like the other products of the brand, design is the main highlight.
While almost all modern phones have the back cover sealed, CMF Phone 1 lets you take it off. This opens the door for a new level of customization, allowing users to interchange the cover to get a different look. Another notable aspect of the back is that it has what the company calls Accessory Point.
As the name suggests, the Accessory Point allows users to attach different "functional" accessories. These include a fold-out stand, a lanyard, and a cardholder. However, the modular nature of CMF Phone 1 goes beyond customization and expanded functionality. As the company notes, the removable back will make repairs easier.
Besides that, the smartphone has reasonably capable mid-range specs. It's powered by the Dimensity 7300, which is paired with up to 8 GB of RAM. The RAM Booster feature extends it to 16 GB, but note that the additional portion is virtual memory. On the front, the CMF Phone 1 sports a 6.67-inch Super AMOLED screen that features a 120 Hz refresh rate.
Camera-wise, the CMF Phone 1 has a 50 MP Sony primary sensor on the back that's paired with a portrait sensor that offers a 2x zoom. There's no OIS, but the good part is that it has EIS with something Nothing calls Action Mode, which aims to deliver blur-free and steady shots.
Other highlights include HDR10+ support, a large 5000 mAh battery with 33W fast charging, three years of security updates with two years of major Android updates, IP52 rating, and Android 14 out of the box. As for the price, the CMF Phone 1 with 8 GB RAM starts at €239 (around $258), making it more affordable than the recently launched Nothing Phone 2a (available on Amazon).
