Motorola Edge 50 Ultra outscores Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 15 in DxOMark's camera test
The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, known as Moto X50 Ultra in China, launched as one of the first devices to be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. It's also one of the very few phones with the SoC that's relatively easier to access outside China.
While its raw performance isn't comparable to the top-end Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra or the Apple iPhone 15, DxOMark has ranked the Edge 50 Ultra higher than the two in its camera ranking. To be specific, Motorola's affordable flagship has achieved an overall score of 146 in DxOMark's test.
This is higher than the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (256 GB curr. $975 on Amazon), which has 144, and the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, both of which have 145. With this higher score, the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra resides in the 17th position in DxOMark's ultra-premium ranking, while Samsung's current top-end phone has the 21st spot.
DxOMark notes that the Edge 50 Ultra is good for portrait photos, including group portrait shots. The phone is also praised for having fast and accurate autofocus, which means it can capture fast-moving objects properly. The other good aspects mentioned are the smartphone's ability to take detailed zoomed shots and its good performance in low-light conditions.
However, DxOMark mentions that they have found many artifacts in the videos and images captured by the phone. The team has shared all their findings in detail, which you can read by clicking this link. Worth mentioning that we have also found the camera system of the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra good, especially its periscope zoom abilities. We gave it an overall score of 85%, which is quite respectable.
