Samsung Galaxy A16 5G tipped to launch with SoC upgrade following new leak
The Samsung Galaxy A15 5G can be found for as little as $131.99 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage on Amazon today (August 3, 2024); however, it has a successor with a similar configuration waiting in the wings that just might be a better buy in the long run, according to the latest leaks.
They include reports of a recent Geekbench 5 listing, thought to belong to the Galaxy A16 5G due to its "samsung SM-A166P" model number, which seems an intuitive generational leap from all the "SM-A156x" leaks of yesteryear.
The device (also now associated with a crop of indifferent scores on Geekbench ML Inference) has been found to run a chipset with all the hallmarks of the Dimensity 6300, an SoC touted by its own manufacturer MediaTek as "10% faster" than the Dimensity 6100+ of the Galaxy A15 5G.
The "A16 5G" is believed to be accompanied by a 4G/LTE-only counterpart at launch, and has also been allegedly spotted on an IMEI database as the SM-A166B/DS (a variant that may or may not be headed to the Indian market next year).
It seems to run Android 14 out of the box - then again, its predecessor is of course assured of the same update, and to keep pace with its successor for years to come, thanks to Samsung's commitment to prolonged software updates.
