Samsung is launching a new model variant of the Galaxy Tab A9+ specially designed for children. Fundamentally, there are no significant changes in the hardware compared to the standard version of the Android tablet. Rather, the Kids Edition comes in a special case that is designed not only to protect the tablet from damage, but also to protect children from injury. The case also comes with a stand, allowing the tablet to be easily set up. Moreover, three styluses shaped like wax crayons are included, which are easy to grip and come with straps to prevent loss.
The tablet is equipped with an SoC with four up to 2.2 GHz computing cores. The 11-inch screen has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200, the main camera has a resolution of 8 MP and the front camera 5 MP. There is no flash. The RAM amounts to 8 GB, while the internal 128 GB of storage can be expanded using a microSD memory card. A special app is designed to offer suitable learning content. Parents can, according to Samsung, "set specific screen time limits, restrict access to certain apps, and monitor their child’s online activities."
A 7,040 mAh battery is installed, and connectivity is limited to WiFi and Bluetooth; a mobile modem is not included, at least not in the soon-to-be-launched model. A 5G version of the tablet is expected to be launched in collaboration with Verizon at the end of August.
The Galaxy Tab A9+ Kids Edition will be launched in the US on August 11 for $269. Pre-orders can be made directly at Samsung here.
