The Galaxy A16 is thought to arrive as one of Samsung's cheapest next-gen 5G smartphones. A second version of the device seems to have cropped up in a new leaks: one with the Exynos processor of a pre-existing forebear rather than an updated MediaTek SoC as in a previous tip. On the other hand, it seems the latter will be the cheaper of the two.

The "samsung SM-A166" is back on Geekbench, but with some key differences this time. The device looked like an encouraging direct upgrade for the Samsung Galaxy A15 5G, as it seemed poised to remain a MediaTek device, with an update to the Dimensity 6300 to boot.

That version of the A16 5G seems destined for regions such as India - however, others might not be so lucky. This time, Geekbench reports that it has a 2-2.4GHz processor with the identifier s5e8535: specs matching those of leaks associated with the Galaxy F14 5G prior to its launch in 2023.

Accordingly, it looks like its successor makes do with the same Exynos 1330 SoC. It also has just 4GB of RAM compared to the 'other' A16's 6GB - but might, at least, seem to run Android 14 out of the box, whereas this F14 5G from Amazon.in is still on One UI 5.

Luckily - or unluckily, perhaps, based on the potential buyer's location - this 'second' A16 5G has the model number SM-A166E, leading to speculation that it is headed for markets such as Africa or some Asian countries.
