Samsung has officially announced the launch of One UI 5.1, the company's latest Android offshoot. The rollout of One UI 5.1 starts with the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S21 series, including the Galaxy S20 FE, and will expand to the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Fold3 eventually.

Earlier this week Samsung began rolling out One UI 5.1 to older devices, with models as old as the Galaxy S20 seemingly in line for the latest version of One UI. Now, the company has confirmed which devices are eligible for One UI 5.1 and how the update differs from One UI 5.0. According to Samsung, five smartphone series should start receiving the update this week with others to follow 'in the coming weeks'. The devices that Samsung plans to upgrade to One UI 5.1 are as follows:

  • Galaxy S20
  • Galaxy S20 Plus
  • Galaxy S20 Ultra
  • Galaxy S20 FE
  • Galaxy S20 FE 5G
  • Galaxy S21
  • Galaxy S21 Plus
  • Galaxy S21 Ultra
  • Galaxy S21 FE
  • Galaxy S22
  • Galaxy S22 Plus
  • Galaxy S22 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Flip3 (coming weeks)
  • Galaxy Z Flip4
  • Galaxy Z Fold3 (coming weeks)
  • Galaxy Z Fold4

In other words, Samsung will only update current and recent flagship smartphones, leaving the likes of the Galaxy A73 on One UI 5.0 until One UI 6.0 arrives later this year. Incidentally, the Expert RAW app remains available on older devices like the Galaxy Z Fold2 and the Galaxy Note20 Ultra, which can now be accessed directly through the Galaxy Camera app. Samsung adds that its AI-based Photo Remaster software will automatically improve poorly captured details by altering brightness and colour levels.

Moreover, Samsung asserts that One UI 5.1 improves customisation options, while also delivering greater connectivity with Galaxy Book laptops thanks to continuity across the Samsung Internet app. One UI 5.1 brings the February 2023 security patch to most devices too, although the Galaxy S23 series remains on the older January 2023 security patch for now.
