HMD Global has kicked off Android 14 upgrades for Nokia smartphones. Distributed as v2.160, the update is nearly a 3 GB download and is already running outdated Android security patches.

HMD Global has started its Android 14 rollout for Nokia smartphones, shortly after Motorola announced plans for its recent product stack. For context, Motorola has not updated of its devices to Google's latest OS yet, the same cannot be said for HMD Global. Unfortunately, the latter has not revealed a full release schedule yet.

Instead, it has quietly started bringing just one handset onto Android 14. Specifically, HMD Global is only upgrading the Nokia G42 5G, a smartphone that we reviewed the last summer. According to Nokiapoweruser, the update has reached India first as an over-the-air (OTA) build with a 2.68 GB download size.

As the screenshot below shows, HMD Global is distributing Android 14 to the Nokia G42 5G as v2.160. For some reason, the company has bundled the December 2023 set of security patches though rather than their January successors that Google issued a few weeks ago. While HMD Global remains quiet about which other devices will receive Android 14, we would expect at least the Nokia G22, Nokia G60, Nokia X30 and Nokia XR21 (curr. $499.99 on Amazon) to make the cut.
