Samsung confirms Galaxy AI, introduced with Galaxy S24 series, will only be available to few old devices
Samsung Galaxy AI is one of the main highlights of the recently released Galaxy S24 series. It brings many AI-enhanced features, including Circle to Search, Live Translate, Note Assist, Generative Edit, and Chat Assist. They are all geared to make your experience better on the new phones. You can learn more about them from the video attached at the end.
Now, the good news is that you don't need to upgrade to the Galaxy S24 device to experience Galaxy AI. As Patrick Chomet, Samsung's Head of Customer Experience, confirmed, the AI features will roll out to old Samsung flagships. But the bad news is that not many devices are on the list.
In the interview with TechRadar, Chomet said Samsung will bring Galaxy AI to the Galaxy S23 devices "within the first half of the year." It will also be coming to the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5 (curr. $855 on Amazon), and Tab S9 through the One UI 6.1 update.
Surprisingly, despite being eligible to receive the One UI 6.1 update, the Galaxy S22 series is out of the list for the rollout of the new AI-enhanced features. It's worth mentioning that the S22 series became just two generations old with the launch of the Galaxy S24 lineup.
What's more interesting is that the Galaxy S23 lineup has the S23 FE (available on Amazon), which is powered by the Exynos 2200. It's the same chipset found in the Galaxy S22 phones sold in several regions. So, it's not like that the smartphones don't have the required processing power.
When asked, Chomet said Samsung is "limiting" the rollout of Galaxy AI to only the last-gen devices "for now." This means the S22 devices may eventually get the AI features currently making the Galaxy S24 stand out, but there's no guarantee of it happening.
