Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra camera sensors detailed with one major change from Galaxy S23 Ultra

Samsung may have now revealed the Galaxy S24 series, but plenty of mysteries remain about its new flagships. With an absence of independent reviews for the time being, it has taken alternative sources to provide insights into the Exynos 2400 that powers the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus in Europe and a few other markets. Similarly, Samsung has not confirmed which camera sensors its included in the Galaxy S24 Ultra, other than outlining a new 50 MP and 5x telephoto camera.

Thankfully, a popular Weibo account and GSMArena are on hand to provide details about the sensors with which Samsung has furnished its latest 'Ultra' smartphone. On the one hand, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is said to rely on the Sony IMX854, a previously unseen sensor that has a 1/2.52-inch optical format. Additionally, this optically stabilised (OIS) sensor has an f/3.4 aperture, a 115 mm equivalent focal length and a 6.18 crop factor, as well as a 22˚ field of view (FoV).

By contrast, the Galaxy S23 Ultra's 10x telephoto camera has a much smaller 1/3.52-inch optical format, along with an f/4.9 aperture and a 230 mm equivalent length. Thus, it appears that Samsung is hoping to overcome the 5x to 10x gap in the Galaxy S24 Ultra with an in-sensor crop and computational photography tweaks like the Pixel 8 Pro. Unfortunately, it seems that the Galaxy S24 Ultra carries over all its predecessor's other camera sensors. In summary, the Galaxy S23 Ultra successor is reported to contain the following camera sensors:

Primary

• Samsung ISOCELL HP2 (S5KHP2) - 200 MP, 1/1.3-inch, f/1.7, 0.6 µm, 85° FoV, Super QPD

Telephoto 1

• Sony IMX754 - 10 MP, 1/3.52-inch, f/2.4, 1.12 µm, 36˚ FoV, 3X optical zoom, Dual Pixel AF

Telephoto 2

• Sony IMX854 - 50 MP, 1/2.52-inch, f/3.4, 22˚ FoV, 10X optical zoom

Ultra-wide-angle

• Sony IMX564 - 12 MP, 1/2.55-inch, f/2.2, 1.4 µm, 120˚ FoV, Dual Pixel AF
