Affordable Galaxy Z Fold 6 could release alongside regular Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 to compete against Chinese foldable phones
Unlike the Galaxy S24 series, leaks regarding the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Z Flip 6 have remained relatively sparse. For instance, although there are indications of major design changes with the Z Fold 6 and the Z Flip 6 allegedly bringing a style that will be featured in the Galaxy S25 series, we don’t know what that design looks like.
That said, as we move closer to the purported 2024 launch of the next Z Fold smartphones, the leaks and rumors are bound to get more frequent. To that end, South Korean publication The Elec now claims that Samsung might release a cheaper version of the Z Fold 6 to increase Chinese market penetration.
The Elec alleges that Samsung is looking to up its Chinese foldable market share by releasing a more cost-effective foldable to go against devices from brands like Huawei. The current rumor of a cheaper Samsung foldable is seemingly in line with a previous report of a $400-$500 foldable Galaxy smartphone that surfaced back in November. However, as we noted back then, the mid-range price point seems unlikely for a Z Fold 6 version.
Per The Elec, Samsung’s decision to introduce a cheaper Z Fold 6 rather than a Z Flip 6 phone is because the latter already sells more than the Z Fold. So, the company has allegedly decided to push the Fold form factor further instead of the Flip.
Finally, The Elec also suggests that Samsung is looking to compete with the Chinese brands on device thinness as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 isn’t as svelte as something like a Mate X5 or a Xiaomi Mix Fold 3.
As always, we have to wait and see whether we see a more wallet-friendly Z Fold 6 or a Z Flip 6 or both when Samsung officially takes the wraps off the new devices later this year.
