It may have taken Honor six months to release the Magic V2 outside its home market. However, the company has wasted no time in bringing the foldable's accompanying special edition model to global audiences. To recap, Honor announced the Magic V2 RSR Porsche Design roughly two weeks ago in China for CNY 15,999 (~$2,234), a CNY 7,000 (~$978) markup over the Magic V2, which it has been selling since July 2023.
Functionally, the Magic V2 and Magic V2 RSR are identical, with the latter containing the former's twin LTPO OLED and 120 Hz displays, four high-resolution cameras, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and 5,000 mAh battery. Honor adds that the Magic V2 RSR is also the first smartphone to incorporate NanoCrystal Shield, though. Supposedly, this anti-scratch technology achieves a rating of 'over seven' on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness.
Unfortunately, the company has not shared any further details about this technology yet. Nonetheless, it insists that it delivers 'tenfold improved scratch resistance', again without providing specifics. Likewise, Honor states that 'further details on the release and pricing' of the Magic V2 RSR 'will be disclosed shortly'. By contrast, Honor has now released the regular Magic V2 in Europe and the UK, with pre-order details confirmed today for the latter market.
As far as we can tell, Honor has slightly re-branded the Magic V2 RSR Porsche Design for its global release. While the device is still referred to as such on its Chinese website, the company calls the special edition model the PORSCHE DESIGN HONOR Magic V2 RSR in both its English and German-language press releases. For reference, Honor describes the handset in the following terms:
The fly line of the rear of the industry-leading foldable smartphone is intricately reminiscent of the hood of a Porsche 911. The improved grip provides a sportscar experience in the user's palm. The PORSCHE DESIGN HONOR Magic V2 RSR comes in the iconic Porsche car colour, Agate Grey.
