Honor Magic6 Pro survives journey to space thanks to new second-gen battery tech
Honor is likely to tout its latest series of flagship smartphones as one of the best for mobile photography in 2024 at its upcoming global launch at this year's MWC event. However, the devices are also touted to espouse the "magic of technology" in other ways.
For example, Honor now asserts that its "second-generation Qinghai Lake battery" confers exceptional durability (and, thus, potential sustainability) on the Pro version of its new top-end handset. The OEM recently chose to demonstrate this by partnering with Sent into Space to propel the Magic6 Pro into the upper atmosphere.
The smartphone thus followed the Amazfit T-Rex 2 in enduring one of the UK group's "flights to the upper stratosphere" on a balloon-like craft. The Magic6 Pro appeared to withstand temperatures of at least -18°C and altitudes of 5,000 meters with no difficulty.
Then again, it would have been nice of Honor to set its high-end OLED display to show something besides a static branded screen-saver to verify that its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform was indeed fully functional during the edge-of-space flight.
Nevertheless, the smartphone was portrayed as still on and fully functional on its fall back to Earth again. Accordingly, should one somehow accidentally stick their new Magic6 Pro in the freezer later in 2024, they might be assured the smartphone will bounce right back and charge as normal on defrosting it again.
