It seems that Honor is preparing to launch a new fitness tracker under its 'Band' series. For context, over a year has passed since the company released the Band 7. However, while the Honor Band 7 has been available in China from December 2022, it took until May 2023 before the fitness tracker made its way to Europe.
Now, a recent Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) certification implies that Honor is working towards offering a Band 7 successor globally. As the screenshot below shows, Honor has certified two variants, RHE-B19 and RHE-B39, albeit with the same retail name. Surprisingly, the company has jumped from Band 7 to Band 9, skipping past arguably one of the most relevant numbers to the success of a new product in Chinese numerology.
Ay any rate, the Bluetooth SIG confirms that the Band 9 will support Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, an improvement over Bluetooth 5.0 provided by the Band 7. Thus, the Honor Band 9 should leverage Bluetooth Low Energy Audio, which should reduce power consumption when streaming audio to a pair of connected earbuds. Unfortunately, it is unclear when Honor will unveil the Band 9. The company has confirmed that it will be showcasing the Magic6 Pro later this month during MWC 2024 in Barcelona, though, which could also serve as a global jumping-off point for other devices like the Band 9.
