OnLeaks has just revealed what Google has in store for us with the Pixel 9 Pro. It comes with a redesigned rear camera module that bears an uncanny resemblance to one of its main competitors.

With the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro still months away from its Q2 2024 launch, a lot of information about the upcoming flagships remains unknown. So far, the duo are rumoured to launch with an enhanced version of the Google Assistant called Google Pixie. Renowned leaker OnLeaks teamed up with MySmartPrice to draw up some CAD renders of the Pixel 9 Pro.

At first glance, it is apparent that Google got its design from the Pixel 9 Pro's camera housing from its arch nemesis, Apple. The pill-shaped layout, while somewhat identical to that of the Pixel 8 Pro ($999 on Best Buy), bears an uncanny resemblance to Dynamic Island. On that, we can see three camera sensors, one of which is a telephoto lens. A temperature sensor seems to be included, too. The camera bump looks hefty, meaning you'll need a case to level it.

The Pixel 9 Pro, much like the Galaxy S24 Ultra, will come with a flat chassis with no significant design rehauls. The power button, USB-C port, and volume rocker position remain unchanged, with the SIM card slot sitting at the bottom. The report's claims of the Pixel 9 Pro sporting a 6.5-inch screen are likely erroneous, and it will probably keep its predecessor's 6.7-inch configuration. While Google could surprise us, it makes little sense to redesign the chassis for what is essentially a minor spec bump. Lastly, the Pixel 9 Pro measures 162.7 x 76.6 x 8.5 mm (6.46 x 3.03 x 0.33 in) in size.

Specs-wise, it will feature a Google Tensor G4 SoC manufactured on Samsung's 4LPP+ node. So far, the only SoC manufactured on the node is Samsung's Exynos 2400, which has proven itself capable of taking on behemoths from Qualcomm and MediaTek. That alone should make the phone remarkably better than its predecessors and a decent stop-gap solution until Google chips start rolling off the TSMC assembly line post-2025.
