MagyarGoogle Pixel 9 revealed with Apple iPhone design elements, periscope zoom camera and possible temperature sensor
The first render images of the Pixel 9 Pro only arrived earlier this week, courtesy of @OnLeaks. Nonetheless, the same leaker has delivered equivalent shots of the smaller Pixel 9. Unsurprisingly, @OnLeaks' renders show that Google will continue offering a holistic design language across its flagship smartphones, having returned to flat displays for regular and 'Pro' models with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro (curr. $999.99 on Amazon).
However, it appears that even fewer differences between the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro. On the one hand, the pair share a flat frame, a flat back panel and minimal display bezels. In other words, the Pixel 9 resembles the current iPhone 15 Pro, albeit with a centred punch-hole for its front-facing camera rather than Apple's Dynamic Island.
Reportedly, the Pixel 9 measures 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5 mm, which would make it larger than the Pixel 8 and iPhone 15 Pro that come in at 150.5 x 70.8 x 8.9 mm and 146.6 x 70.6 x 8.3 mm, respectively. Unsurprisingly, the Pixel 9 will be substantially smaller than the Pixel 9 Pro, whose 162.7 x 76.6 x 8.5 mm dimensions are practically unchanged from the Pixel 8 Pro. With that being said, the Pixel 9's back panel will actually reach 12 mm in places, thanks to its sizeable camera housing.
Hence, Google is moving away from the wraparound camera housing that it included in the Pixel 8 series. Instead, the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro have adopted the camera housing from the Pixel Fold, which Google released last May. On the other hand, @OnLeaks asserts that even the smaller Pixel 9 will feature a dedicated periscope telephoto camera, which Google already offers in the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Fold.
Moreover, there is a small circular cut-out beneath the Pixel 9's LED flash array, the same spot in which Google positioned a temperature sensor on the Pixel 8 Pro. Unfortunately, camera hardware details remain unknown for now, such as whether the Pixel 9 will carry over the 10.8 MP or 48 MP telephoto cameras from the Pixel 8 Pro or Pixel Fold.
