2025’s Tensor G5 SoC that may debut in the Pixel 10 devices is reportedly being entirely developed by Google. The report comes to us courtesy of @OreXda on Twitter. The leaker also claims that the Tensor G4 might also use a Google-made CPU but Samsung isn’t completely out of the picture.

It is no secret that the latest Google Tensor G3 is not built for speed. For instance, the Tensor G3 GPU performance is not only beaten by the competing Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 but the older Apple A16 Bionic also trounces it. What’s even more troubling, however, is that the situation might not improve with the Tensor G4, as reports have alleged the SoC to be a minor upgrade over the Tensor G3. The chip is rumored to pack a CPU design with three different cores and the same Arm Mali-G715 GPU as the Tensor G3.

New information from @OreXda on Twitter reveals that while the Tensor G4 will rely on a Samsung or Google-designed CPU and a Google-designed GPU, Google will take full control of the development of the Tensor G5. The company is reportedly developing the CPU, the GPU and the backend for the Tensor G5 in-house.

@OreXda’s claim is in line with a previous report that alleged the Tensor G5 to be the first “fully-customized” SoC from Google that could leave Samsung and use TSMC’s 3 nm process. After struggling to rival the likes of Qualcomm and Apple with their Tensor G1, G2, and now the G3 chips built on Samsung process nodes, it will be interesting to see how much better the G5 ends up being after switching to TSMC's 3nm process.

That said, nothing concrete can be claimed at the moment, since we are two years away from seeing any Pixel 10 devices with the Tensor G5. So, take the information presented here with a grain of salt.
