Nokia's tenure as a mobile device company may now be coming to an end; however, it asserts that will definitely still be around as a firm that makes a "significant contribution to developing key technologies relied upon by the entire smartphone industry".
Vivo is the latest brand in this space to acknowledge Nokia's status as a purveyor of "essential to 5G" IP by entering into a new agreement "that reflects mutual respect for each other's intellectual property rights". It entails the payment of royalties, both back-dated to resolve a certain dispute and for a currently undetermined number of years into the future.
In return, Vivo can remain more certain of being able to provide "extraordinary hi-tech products and services" such as the high-end X100 Pro (and, possibly, its subsequent Pro+ sibling) "for users worldwide". The OEM's General Manager of Legal Affairs Xianwen Xu also believes that the new accord will help maintain "a positive development environment within the industry".
