Nokia G42 touted as new Super Fast 5G Android smartphone on launch
Nokia's latest smartphone seems to swap the advanced repairability of the G22 for new and potentially engaging So Purple or So Gray colorways. Then again, the 2 devices practically have the exact same camera hump, in which macro and depth back-up lenses take up space alongside a 50MP "AI" main shooter.
Then again, the G42 does boast "Super Fast 5G" - even if it is due to the budget-class Snapdragon 480+ SoC. It is paired to an "efficient" maximum of 11GB of RAM - albeit thanks to a "Virtual" software-based feature. Those internals drive a potentially underwhelming 6.56-inch HD+ display with a waterdrop selfie camera notch, only made in any way "immersive" with a 90Hz refresh rate.
Nevertheless, Nokia also pitches the G42 as a potential long-term companion with a battery good for "800 charging cycles", to be completed using the 20W charger found in the box. Then again, it will get just 2 years of software support, meaning that even if it ships with Android 13, it will only get to Android 15 by the end of its life. That final-form OS will have an extra year of new security patches on top of that, at least.
Then again, the HMD Global brand does ask just INR 12,599 (~US$152, or about the same as a new G21 with 6GB RAM today) for the base model of this new smartphone. It will be released at that price on Amazon.in from September 15, 2023.
