At IFA 2024, HMD announced the HMD Fusion, a mid-range Android smartphone with a modular design. Thanks to a set of pogo pins on the back of the phone, owners can add new features such as wireless charging, a game controller, and a case with a ring light via accessories called Fusion Outfits. When it launched in the US, it cost $299.99, but Amazon currently has the phone on sale for a whopping 41% off its launch price.
At $299.99, the HMD Fusion can be considered pricey for a mid-range smartphone especially since buyers still have to shell out more money for the Fusion Outfits. With Amazon's huge 41% discount which brings its price down to $177.99, it makes for a pretty good device and a solid alternative to the recently announced Moto G 2025.
For $177.99, you get a phone with a 6.56'' HD+ 90Hz LCD panel with a centered punch hole for the front-facing camera. It is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor and has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Its primary rear camera is a 108MP sensor while a 2MP depth sensor sits below it. It also has a 50MP front-facing camera that can record slow-motion selfie videos.
The HMD Fusion has a microSD card slot for up to an additional 1TB of storage and dual SIM support (nano and eSIM). It also has NFC, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, Face Unlock, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and an IP54 splash resistance rating. The phone has a 5,000mAh battery capacity and support for 33W fast wired charging. HMD says owners can add wireless charging via a Fusion Case but that case isn't available yet. Also, it doesn't come with a charger in the box.
HMD ships it with Android 14 and says it will receive 2 OS upgrades and 3 years of security updates. Like a lot of HMD's smartphones, the Fusion is also easy to repair with parts available to buy from iFixit in select markets.
In addition to official Fusion Outfits, HMD also wants people to build their own outfits so it has made the CAD file and the API to allow them to do this available via the HMD Development Toolkit.
