If we had to guess, the Nintendo Switch 2 could be the most heavily leaked console of all time, and for good reason. Despite being a phenomenon, the OG Nintendo Switch launched way back in March 2017 and was severely underpowered compared to other contenders of the console generation, the Xbox One and the Sony PS4.
As a result, the graphics of Nintendo Switch titles have never been close to the level of traditional consoles, a gap that has increased significantly after the launch of next-gen machines. So, fans have been craving for a more powerful Switch for some time now, resulting in a plethora of leaks over the past years.
Fortunately, it seems we are finally now on the verge of the official Nintendo Switch 2 reveal as a recent detailed Switch 2 leak alleged a January 2025 announcement. We now have more confirmation of this purported Nintendo Switch 2 announcement date.
Nintendo Switch 2 reveal is reportedly scheduled for January 2025
A “Major Third Party” developer source has allegedly told @NintenTalk that Nintendo Switch 2 reveal will happen in January. The source also told NintenTalk to “get ready to play modern AAA titles on your Switch 2 in 2025”.
This information is somewhat corroborated by NintendoPrime who reported on X that they “won’t be waiting much longer” before they can start talking about the Switch 2.
While January 2025 reveal now looks set, we don’t know the exact Nintendo Switch 2 release date. However, we can make a few educated guesses.
Nintendo Switch 2 release date
After initially showing the OG Switch in October 2016, Nintendo provided a detailed look at the console in January 2017. Following this reveal, the Nintendo Switch launched on March 3, 2017. We could see a similar thing play out with the Switch 2.
While Nintendo hasn’t given us any teaser trailers for the Switch 2, we can expect the Switch 2 launch to follow a short while later, maybe in March 2025 like the original Switch, after the January 2025 reveal. If and when the reveal happens, we can also be sure that Nintendo will have some big-name titles to launch with the console as the OG Switch launched with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Additionally, going by @NintenTalk’s information about the Switch 2 being able to play “modern AAA titles”, we won’t be surprised to see the Switch 2 launch titles include a few games from AAA studios.
All in all, the upcoming weeks are shaping up to be quite exciting for Nintendo Switch 2 fans. Let’s hope the company delivers and fans get to enjoy a powerful console with a decent selection of games.
