AFMF 2 is now official for the ROG Ally gaming handhelds, and Asus is promising a big FPS boost with this new AMD frame-gen technology. To be specific, the company says that the tech can offer over 2x uplift.

AMD made the AFMF 2 official in October, and while it was possible to make it work on the ROG Ally handhelds, Asus has now announced official support. With this new frame generation tech, AMD promised up to 2.5x FPS boost, and as we've covered earlier, on a good number of titles, there's a noticeable improvement in the gaming experience.

Asus, on the other hand, promises a 2x or better FPS boost when AFMF 2 is enabled. In the official live stream, the company showed how to use the tech in most games, including those that don't have built-in support. While the live stream didn't go much into benchmark comparisons, YouTuber Quick Expert Reviews has chimed in in this regard.

It's worth noting that Quick Expert Reviews has tested the official AFMF 2 support on the Asus ROG Ally X, but a similar performance boost can be expected on the Z1 Extreme-equipped non-X ROG Ally (curr. $499.99 on Best Buy). Getting back to the benchmark comparisons, the gaming handheld was shown to run Helldivers 2 at around 40 FPS without the tech enabled, but with it enabled, it jumped to around 70 FPS.

The frame time wasn't bad either; it hovered around 15 ms. Another game tested on the ROG Ally X is Fallout 76. Without AFMF 2, the game ran at around 40 FPS, but once enabled, it jumped to about 100 FPS, which is more than a 2x boost. Cyberpunk 2077 also ran well, jumping from around 30 FPS to over 50 FPS, but the frame time was about 25 ms. So, in some titles, there can be a bit of input lag.
