One of the elements revealed in a recent Nintendo Switch 2-related leak might suggest more than just an IR motion camera, but a whole new feature. This feature could be a "mouse mode" similar to that provided by the right controller of the Lenovo Legion Go. Famiboards user LiC has recently shared his thoughts on the matter and also added more inside information, based on a shipping manifest he had bumped into a while ago.
"If the Joy-Con is to be used as a mouse, it needs rubber feet to slide on. They don't totally look like it in the photo to my eyes, but the ring at the top of the rail and the oval at the bottom could be rubber feet,"
posted LiC. He also added that
"The product itself is just a sheet of adhesive tape, hence the size, but the "model" name is certainly relevant. And while the descriptions are often unreliable when it comes to specifying console vs. controller vs. peripheral, "game console handles" is frequently used for parts related to the Joy-Cons."
The next-gen Nintendo Switch console is expected to arrive by March 2025 with an 8-inch LCD screen, noticeably larger than the 6.2-incher of the original. The amount of system memory is also expected to get a solid bump, specifically from 4 GB to 12 GB. Backward compatibility is also in the cards, and so is the ability to sync with the existing Nintendo Switch Online content.
The controllers are expected to sport magnetic attachments, as well as the aforementioned computer mouse-like operation mode. Remains to see if they will also come with a price similar to the current Joy-Cons, which can be acquired from Amazon for $79.99, with free shipping included.
