Verdict - The OLED is impressive, but the Legion Go 2 is too expensive
The highlight of the new Lenovo Legion Go 2 is clearly the 144 Hz OLED display. Image quality is excellent, and games look stunning, especially since HDR content benefits from the extremely high brightness (over 1,100 cd/m² peak brightness). However, it is also one of the largest and heaviest gaming handhelds on the market, which makes the concept with detachable controllers and the integrated kickstand genuinely useful. That said, this design also comes with drawbacks, including a slightly smaller battery capacity (due to limited internal space) and weaker audio, as the speakers cannot be directed toward the user.
The performance of the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme is already well known and solid, but it also brings us to a major issue: the price. Lenovo charges a steep €1,499 (approx. $1,777) for the model equipped with the Z2 Extreme. However, other gaming handhelds offering comparable performance start at around €900. In practical terms, you are paying a premium of roughly €500–600 for the detachable controllers and the (undoubtedly excellent) OLED panel. At this price point, the absence of Wi-Fi 7 and an SD Express card reader is also disappointing.
Anyone considering spending this much on a gaming handheld should also keep in mind that Panther Lake, a significantly more powerful chip, is now on the horizon. It likely will not be long before the first corresponding handhelds reach the market. These are expected to deliver a substantial performance advantage of around 70%.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
The Legion Go 2 can be ordered directly from Lenovo (Germany) for €1,499.
Translator’s note: At the time of translation, the gaming handheld is no longer available through Lenovo’s official U.S. online store. However, it can still be found at other retailers.
Lenovo is updating its gaming handheld Legion Go and equipping it with a faster processor from AMD and a high-resolution OLED panel with a frequency of 144 Hz. The two detachable controllers are still available, but the small gamer is also one of the most expensive models on the market with an RRP of €1,499.
Lenovo is updating its Legion Go gaming handheld, equipping it with a faster AMD processor and a high-resolution 144 Hz OLED panel. The two detachable controllers remain part of the package. However, with an MSRP of €1,499, this compact gaming device is also one of the most expensive models on the market.
Specifications
Case & equipment
The overall design of the Legion Go 2 remains in line with its predecessor. The black plastic chassis is largely smooth and feels high-quality, with textured surfaces only on the backs of the two grips to improve handling. The grips can still be detached, allowing the central unit with the display and internal hardware to be placed on a table, for example. The integrated kickstand remains relatively thin, but it is no longer as easy to bend as it was on the previous model.
With its 8.8-inch display and a weight of over 900 grams, the Legion Go 2 is a large handheld, and the weight becomes noticeable during extended use. Some ports and controls have been repositioned, but the device still offers two USB-C 4.0 ports and a microSD card reader. The reader is fast, but unfortunately it does not yet support the SD Express standard, which is used, for example, in Nintendo’s Switch 2.
Internally, the layout has also been redesigned. The batteries are now positioned on both sides, with a single fan located in the center. The M.2 2280 SSD sits underneath and can be replaced, although a cable connection must be disconnected first. Despite its high price, the device still does not support Wi-Fi 7.

Input Devices
The two controller halves can be detached, and the connection remains very solid when they are docked. As a special feature, the right stick can be used like a mouse in FPS mode, which we covered in detail in our review of the first Legion Go. In everyday use, however, the two outer buttons can be somewhat irritating, as they are easily pressed unintentionally.
The buttons and triggers made a good impression during testing and remained unobtrusive in a positive sense throughout the gaming sessions. The Legion software also offers extensive configuration options. Compared to other Windows handhelds, the device additionally features a touchpad on the right-hand side, which significantly simplifies navigation in Windows and can also prove useful during gameplay.
Display - 144 Hz OLED with VRR
The highlight of the new Legion Go 2 is clearly the 144 Hz OLED display. While the Full HD resolution is lower than that of the first generation (IPS with 2,560 × 1,440 pixels), this is not a real drawback given the 8.8-inch screen size. In terms of image quality, the new OLED panel represents a clear upgrade, offering vibrant colors and perfect blacks that make games look excellent. The display also supports HDR content, and we measured a maximum brightness of 1,155 cd/m², allowing HDR effects to stand out effectively.
SDR brightness comes in at just under 500 cd/m², which is a solid result. Factory calibration is not perfect, but it is entirely adequate for gaming. We were able to achieve slight improvements with our own calibration. As is typical for OLED panels, PWM flickering is present; however, the frequency is relatively high at 720 Hz and, combined with the low amplitude, it should not pose any significant issues.

Performance - AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme
Test conditions
Lenovo offers several power profiles (Silent, Balanced, and Performance), along with a manual mode that allows individual adjustment of the TDP values (up to 45 watts peak and up to 35 watts sustained). We conducted our benchmarks in Performance mode.
All profiles are also available when running on battery power, although the respective TDP limits are lower than when connected to the mains. However, the manual mode provides the same adjustment options in battery mode, meaning full performance is technically available even without a power adapter.
Processor
We are already familiar with the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme (Zen 5) from numerous other handhelds, and with power limits of 35/32 watts, overall CPU performance is very good and remains stable

Storage
The PCIe 4.0 SSD in the review unit delivers solid transfer rates overall, although performance does not remain stable under sustained load. However, this should not have any impact on gaming performance. After the initial setup, 873 GB of storage is available to the user.

GPU performance
We are already familiar with the graphics and gaming performance of the Radeon 890M GPU from other handhelds, and there are no surprises here. However, this also means that the same level of gaming performance is already available in devices that cost €600 less (approx. $711).
The Full HD resolution is a good fit for the iGPU, and many games can be played at reasonable settings. That said, once the first handhelds equipped with Intel Panther Lake and the Arc B390 reach the market, performance will move to an entirely different level.

Speakers
The stereo speakers are not entirely convincing, mainly due to their positioning. They are located on the top edge, as there is no available space on the front beside the display. Competitors without detachable controllers (such as the ROG Xbox Ally X or the MSI Claw) direct the sound toward the user and therefore have an advantage in this regard.

Energy consumption
Compared to its predecessor, idle power consumption has been reduced, and the figures are reasonable given the display size. We measured a peak draw of 58.6 watts, which quickly stabilizes at around 54 watts. The included 65-watt power adapter is therefore sufficient.

Battery life
As space inside the Legion Go 2 is limited due to the detachable controllers, Lenovo was only able to install a 74 Wh battery despite the large chassis. As a result, battery life is merely average.
When gaming, runtimes depend largely on the selected power profile. In Performance mode (where the TDP is quickly limited to 20 watts), battery life is around 2.5 hours. Using full power in Manual mode reduces runtime to just over one hour (1:17 hours). In Silent mode, the device lasts a little over five hours, while Balanced mode delivers just under three hours.
