Lenovo has shared some good news for Legion Go owners following some disheartening rumors doing the rounds. The device will continue to get updates, but the frequency and meaningfulness of those updates is still a mystery.

Rumors about Lenovo and Asus dropping support for their AMD Z1 Extreme powered gaming handhelds took the internet by storm last week. It started with a translated response from a customer support agent in South Korea stating the Legion Go is no longer supported. Fortunately, Lenovo has now, reportedly, clarified the situation and brought good news for the early adopters.

According to PCWorld’s Adam Patrick Murray who is the cohost of The Full Nerd Network podcast, Lenovo will continue to support the original Legion Go till October 2029. The handheld was released in October 2023 so that would be six years of updates. While the frequency of updates has been sparse till now and the new information does not shed light on timelines, it’s good to see that Lenovo isn’t abandoning its early adopters.

During the podcast, Adam shared that upon reaching out to Lenovo US, the representative said that the statement from the South Korean customer support team seems unofficial and that they will come back with an official statement. They came back with the following:

Support for the Lenovo Legion Go (8.8”, 1) has not been discontinued. Lenovo is actively continuing to support the Legion Go (8.8”, 1) with necessary driver and BIOS updates and will continue to do so through October 2029. Lenovo is working in concert with AMD on driver update cadence, and new updates will be released once they have passed Lenovo’s rigorous review protocols.

Notably, shortly after the rumor went viral, Asus released an update for the ROG Ally handheld that was a new firmware version, but on the same older branch. That raises questions about how meaningful these updates for the Legion Go would be, and how frequently they will be released. Day one game updates are still unlikely.
