PixelMob: This smart portable SSD is also a tiny mini PC with a touch display and 8-core SoC

Over the years, we have covered plenty of interesting concepts and gadgets. The PixelMob definitely makes that list, packing an entire computer in an ultra-compact chassis with a 7-inch display that primarily serves as a portable SSD.
According to Liliputing, the PixelMob is powered by an ARM-powered Rockchip RK3588 SoC paired with 12 GB of RAM. Needless to say, the SoC is far from a powerhouse, but packs enough punch to push through lightweight tasks. In synthetic benchmarks such as Geekbench 6, the RK3588 scores around 800 and 2500 points in single and multi-core respectively, putting it in the same league as an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U.
Smart storage with tons of AI-assisted features
However, the PixelMob seemingly utilizes a custom OS that prevents it from functioning as a full-fledged mini PC. Despite its capable specs, the product is intended to be used as a storage device with networking capabilities as well as a ton of intelligent features, such as duplicate detection and removal, AI-powered color grading, camera control and monitoring, as well as 6-step security among others.

The vanilla PixelMob will boast a 5.5-inch 1080p LCD touch-enabled display, while the Pro variant will feature the aforementioned 7-inch 1080p OLED display with a peak brightness of 1300 nits.
Of course, being a portable storage solution, the PixelMob Pro sports plenty of storage options. A total of three M.2 slots (PCIe 3.0) are on offer, as well as 64 GB of on-board eMMC storage for the OS. The standard variant, on the other hand, only gets two M.2 slots. The I/O on offer is also quite attractive, and has been detailed below:
- Thunderbolt 4 (only on the Pro variant)
- USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, Type-C
- SD, microSD, CFExpress slots (TF on the standard variant)
- 2.5G Ethernet
- WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2
- HDMI in and out
The PixelMob will be introduced by the same folks behind the UnifyDrive lineup of premium storage solutions, and the product is likely to enter the crowdfunding stage soon. Considering the features on offer, as well as the skyrocketing memory and storage prices, the PixelMob will almost certainly command a premium price tag.
