Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 may upgrade to 5G, matching Apple counterpart

As we approach the summer launch window, leaks about upcoming hardware have been picking up. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is expected to be among the new wearables that Samsung unveils in the coming months, and some new information about it has surfaced. If true, the smartwatch would match Apple’s latest offerings in terms of network connectivity.
The latest information comes courtesy of GalaxyClub and claims that the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will support 5G connectivity. This would make it the first Galaxy Watch to do so, and match its Apple counterparts. Apple added 5G connectivity to its smartwatches with the Watch Ultra 3 (buy on Amazon) and the Watch Series 11 (buy on Amazon). It is unclear if the Galaxy Watch 9 series will be upgraded with a 5G modem as well.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) only comes with 4G/LTE connectivity and there is no Bluetooth only model. The same will likely be true for the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. While not a lot has been leaked about the upcoming smartwatches, a recent report suggested that Samsung will switch to the Snapdragon Wear Elite for the Ultra 2. The Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch 9 Classic are said to stick with the Exynos W1000 chip.
As for release, Samsung typically launches new foldables and wearables together in July so the same can be expected for the Galaxy Watch 9 series and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8.
