At the latest Unpacked event, Samsung has officially showcased the new Galaxy Watch 8. It's available in two sizes: 40 mm with a 1.3-inch display and 44 mm with a 1.5-inch screen, and there's an option to get the smartwatch with LTE support. In the EU, the non-LTE variants cost €379 and €409, respectively, while the cellular support costs €30 extra.
Compared to the predecessor, the new Samsung smartwatch brings a good number of improvements to the table. Among them is a brighter display, which has a peak brightness rating of 3,000 nits. This is a noticeable upgrade over the screen of the Watch 7, which was rated for up to 2,000 nits.
Under the hood, the Galaxy Watch8 features the same Exynos W1000 SoC as before, but Samsung claims that it's an improved variant. It's said to offer faster and smoother operations. The SoC is paired with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, and the smartwatch runs on the new One UI 8 Watch that's based on Wear OS.
Build-wise, the Galaxy Watch 8 comes with a reinforced aluminum chassis that's said to be 11% thinner than the predecessor (40 mm non-LTE curr. $159.99 on Amazon). It features "Sapphire Glass" on the top and sports 5 ATM, IP68, and MIL-STD-810H water and dust protection ratings.
One of the new health tracking features of this new Samsung smartwatch is the ability to measure antioxidant levels. The company claims that the wearable can measure the carotenoid levels of the skin, which will eventually help users reduce the risk of diseases and support a balanced diet.
Samsung notes that there are more new health-focused features available in the Health App that will help users improve their health and sleeping habits. Among the other highlights of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 are a dual-band GNSS module, up to a 435 mAh battery with Fast Wireless Charging, and Google Gemini support. The smartwatch is available in Silver and Graphite colorways.
