Poco X8 Pro: Xiaomi releases new mid-range smartphone for $299

The Poco X8 Pro is the cheapest of the three smartphones that Xiaomi has unveiled today. For context, the company has launched the Poco X8 Pro Iron Man Edition and the Poco X8 Pro Max simultaneously. Nonetheless, the Poco X8 Pro still has a few tricks up its sleeve as a replacement for last year's Poco X7 Pro (curr. $399.99 on Amazon).
For instance, Xiaomi includes a 120 Hz AMOLED display that resolves at 2,756 x 1,268 pixels with 3,500 nits peak brightness (25% APL), 3,840 Hz PWM dimming and 12-bit colour depth. Xiaomi also protects the 6.59-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. For reference, this glass covers the device's 20 MP front-facing camera, too.
Meanwhile, 50 MP primary (Sony IMX882) and 8 MP ultra-wide-angle cameras occupy the device's rear panel. This rear panel hides a 6,500 mAh battery with support for 100 W wired (PPS) and 27 W reverse wired charging. Also, Xiaomi includes a MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset within the Poco X8 Pro's IP68-certified, 157.5 x 75.2 x 8.4 mm and 201.5 g housing.
The Poco X8 Pro comes in Black, White and Mint Green colour options. At launch, Xiaomi is charging $299 for variants with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Meanwhile, 512 GB SKUs start at $329 with 8 GB of RAM and $359 with 12 GB of RAM. However, the Poco X8 Pro will eventually retail for $329; 512 GB storage SKUs are set to increase by $40 each once Xiaomi's Early Bird period is over, too.
