Yesterday, Huawei introduced numerous new devices in China with four Mate 80 series smartphones alone. Alongside the Mate 80 through to the Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design, Huawei also unveiled a new Watch Ultimate Design, the MatePad Edge and the Mate X7, as well as a 110-inch Mini LED TV.
Among all these new launches, Huawei has quietly updated the MateBook Fold six months after its initial debut. Still without a global release, the MateBook Fold is closer in implementation to the ThinkPad X1 Fold than dual-screen laptops like the Asus Zenbook Duo (curr. $1,692.99 on Amazon). Previously, Huawei offered the MateBook Fold in black, blue and white, all with matching keyboard accessories to complement their 18-inch foldable displays.
As far as we can tell, the new MateBook Fold represents a visual refresh. Previously, Huawei tied the foldable's 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage SKU to a sole Forged Shadow Black colour option. For some reason, the company still restricts Cloud Water Blue and The Sky is White options to a 1 TB variant. Now though, Huawei has expanded 2 TB availability to include a new Red variant that loosely translates as 'Ruihong'.
Incidentally, this is the same colour in which the Mate XTs Ultimate Design is available. The same is true for the Mate X7, raising the question of why it took six months for Huawei to furnish one of its most expensive mobile devices in the same colour option. The refreshed MateBook Fold costs CNY 26,999 (~$3,815) but with no global launch in sight as it stands. Please see our Matebook Fold launch article for more details.
