Huawei has unveiled the MateBook Fold as its first foldable laptop. Sporting an 18'' tandem OLED display that folds into a 13'' form factor, the laptop has 32GB of RAM, up to 2TB of storage, and runs HarmonyOS.

Years after Lenovo announced the world's first foldable PC, Huawei has announced its own foldable computer. Called the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, the new computer is also among the first Huawei PCs powered by HarmonyOS 5.

The MateBook Fold weighs 1.16 kg and measures 7.3mm when unfolded and 14.9mm when folded. Huawei says the computer uses a water drop hinge custom made for foldables. The hinge allows the device to hold its angle between 30° to 150°. The MateBook Fold also has an integrated kickstand that props it up in landscape mode.

The MateBook Fold has an 18-inch display that folds into a 13-inch portable device. The display is a tandem OLED LTPO panel with a 92% screen-to-body ratio, a 3.3K(3296 x 2472) resolution, and up to 1600 nits of peak brightness. It also has 1440Hz PWC dimming and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

Huawei has equipped the MateBook Fold with 32GB of RAM and the option of a 1TB or 2TB SSD. There's no mention of the processor powering it but it most likely is a Kirin chip like its other Huawei MateBooks. There's Bluetooth 5.2, dual-band Wi-Fi, two USB-C ports, and a fingerprint scanner under the power button. It also has an 8MP front-facing camera, six speakers, and four microphones. Inside the MateBook Fold is a 74.69Wh battery.

Although the MateBook Fold has a virtual keyboard, Huawei will also bundle the computer with a physical keyboard. The keyboard has a touchpad and 1.5mm key travel, and is quite thin at 5mm and weighs just 290 grams. It also has a battery life of up to 24 days. Owners can also choose to connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

In addition to the keyboard, the MateBook Fold also comes with a 140W power brick, a braided cable, a screen cleaning cloth, a large storage back for the computer, and a smaller bag for accessories.

Available in Black, Blue, and White, the MateBook Fold is priced at CNY23,999 (~$3,328/€2,953) for the 1TB version and CNY26,999 (~$3,745/€3,322) for the 2TB version. That is more expensive than the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold 16 (available on Amazon for $2899) cost at launch. The MateBook Fold 6 will be released on June 6 but is already available for pre-order.
