Huawei has now officially released its latest tablet in China after previewing it earlier this month. As expected, the MatePad Edge features a built-in kickstand that closely resembles those found on recent Surface Pro 2-in-1s like the Surface Pro 11 (curr. $749 on Amazon) thanks to its 175° maximum opening angle. However, Huawei has created a keyboard accessory that transforms the MatePad Edge into an iPad Pro lookalike when paired with Apple's Magic Keyboard accessory.
Apparently, Huawei wants to compete with Apple in terms of performance, too. Specifically, Huawei claims that its new Kirin X90 and Kirin X90A chipsets get close to the Apple M5 with roughly 3.8x performance gains over the Kirin T92 that we reviewed inside this year's MatePad Pro 13.2 and other recent MatePad releases.
Not only has Huawei paired this chipset with optional liquid cooling and two vapour chambers, but it has also paired it with a 14.2-inch AMOLED display that outputs at up to 1,000 nits with a 3,120 x 2,080 resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Moreover, the MatePad Edge finds itself with a 12,900 mAh battery that supports 140 W wired charging, plus 50 MP primary and 32 MP selfie cameras.
All this hardware is rounded off within a 6.85 mm thick case that weighs 789 g and starts at CNY 5,999 (~$847) with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Alternatively, the 2-in-1 can be configured with up to 12,999 (~$1,834) with a matte display finish, liquid cooling, its keyboard accessory, 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage. All memory options come in a choice between Space Grey and Silver finishes, too. Please note that only this SKU features liquid cooling; Huawei's matte display finish is available on a cheaper SKU, though.
