The HP EliteBook 8 Flip G1i 13 convertible is now widely available to replace last year's EliteBook x360 830 G10. The two models may look the same at first glance because of their similar exterior colors and materials, but the newer model introduces a long of list of small changes that add up for a better user experience.
Externally, the newer system is noticeably thinner than before with more USB-C ports while maintaining optional support for nano-SIM and Smart Card. The extra USB-C port in particular is useful as the system can now be charged on either side whereas charging on the EliteBook x360 830 was limited to the left side only. Both the clickpad and font on the keyboard keys are larger this year as well for overall better usability. The included active stylus pen has a new pen garage integrated onto the laptop itself for convenient storing whereas this was not a feature on the outgoing EliteBook x360 830 G10.
Internally, the CPU swap from Raptor Lake-U to Arrow Lake-U has resulted in significant performance gains while operating within similar power limits. Our tests show a raw multi-thread performance increase of around 50 percent by drawing just a few watts more from mains. Even the battery has increased in capacity from 51 Wh to 62 Wh for longer runtimes.
While excellent overall, we still have a few gripes with the new convertible. Check out our review on the EliteBook 8 Flip G1i 13 to learn more about the pros and cons of the latest HP subnotebook.
