Huawei has outlined plans to expand its tablet division with the MatePad Edge, a 2-in-1 that seeks to take on the iPad Pro and Surface Pro simultaneously. Set to be introduced on November 25 alongside the Mate 80 series and the Mate X7, the MatePad Edge features a 14.2-inch display that sits between the iPad Pro and Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra in size.
Huawei has also integrated a built-in kickstand unlike Apple or Samsung's latest high-end tablets. In that sense, the MatePad Edge is closer in form factor to the Surface Pro 11 (curr. $899.99 on Amazon). However, an accompanying keyboard case transforms the device into an iPad Pro 13 lookalike thanks to its floating display design.
As the video below shows, the keyboard accessory also includes a large trackpad and a hinge assembly itself. According to Digital Chat Station, the MatePad Edge will be available with up to 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage, as well as Huawei's latest Kirin 9030 chipset.
Apparently, the device also utilises a version of HarmonyOS too, that can automatically switch between tablet and desktop interfaces depending on whether its keyboard accessory is attached. Pricing and international availability remain unknown at this stage, though.
