Lenovo equips its new business convertible with Intel's Arrow Lake processor, but combines them with onboard memory and a weak cooling unit. A Lunar Lake chip or an AMD Strix Point processor would have been a better choice.

Lenovo is the leading manufacturer when it comes to convertibles. There are plenty of models both for consumers as well as business users and the ThinkPad T14s 2-in-1 is the latest premium entry for the business lineup. While the regular ThinkPad T14s Gen6 is available with Intel's Lunar Lake chips (or AMD Strix Point or Qualcomm Snapdragon) though, Lenovo decided to use Intel's Arrow Lake for the convertible.

One advantage of Arrow Lake is that you can combine the CPUs with regular SO-DIMM memory modules, but Lenovo decided to use onboard memory. You can get up to 64 GB and therefore twice as much compared to Lunar Lake, but we do not think this will be relevant for the vast majority of business users. The CPU performance of the Arrow Lake processor is also pretty weak. The multi-core performance is slightly better, but the peak consumption is higher. Both the single-core performance and especially the graphics performance, however, are worse. The Arrow Lake processor also lacks the Copilot+ certification.

Our review unit was equipped with the Core Ultra 7 255U, which only offers two performance cores and also features the Intel Graphics iGPU, which is currently one of the slowest iGPUs you can get. There are optional H-series CPUs with faster iGPUs, but the cooling performance is very weak overall and the processor TDP dropped to just 24 Watts under sustained workloads.

All in all, it is pretty hard o understand Lenovo's decision here. Especially the Lunar Lake version of the regular ThinkPad T14s left a very good impression and we are pretty sure it would have improved the T14s 2-in-1 as well. Please see our review of the new ThinkPad T14s 2-in-1 for more information including comprehensive benchmarks and measurements.
