Verdict: Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G6 is an almost perfect business laptop
For business laptops, Intel's Lunar Lake platform has been the perfect storm. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Intel is no exception. This new model runs cooler, much longer and more quiet than the earlier iterations of the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s. Compared with the AMD model, it achieves significantly better battery life and runs less hot and loud - the same is true when compared with the Qualcomm variant, though it has parity with the Qualcomm model in terms of the battery life.
Those models both achieve a better CPU performance overall, and they can have up to 64 GB of RAM - but if neither of these things are needed, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Intel is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a work laptop. With its high quality chassis, input devices and plenty of ports, security features and connectivity options as well as the bright, matte WUXGA screen, this ThinkPad laptop is prepared for epic long work days that can last more than 20 hours.

Choice is one of the key attributes of the Lenovo ThinkPad brand - choice between many different models and hardware options. One of the ThinkPad laptops that offers the most choices is the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s. This premium variant of the legendary ThinkPad T series is often seen as a sweet-spot between portability, quality and price in the lineup. It is not a coincidence that Lenovo offers the current Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 with the CPUs of all three big processor manufacturers of the Windows world.
We have already tested the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Qualcomm and the ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 AMD. With this review, we are taking a look at the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Intel, which trades in the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite or AMD Strix Point processor of the other models for an Intel Lunar Lake chip in the reviewed model.
Specifications: Lunar Lake combined with Low Power screen
Case: Same as the ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Qualcomm
We have described the chassis of the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G6 in detail in our review of the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Qualcomm.
To give a short summary: The ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 features a modern version of the classic ThinkPad design, with an all-black exterior that has some red accents. It uses high quality materials, such as carbon fiber, aluminum and magnesium, which makes for a lightweight and premium build. There is little to no flex and the rubberized texture feels very nice, though it is suspectible to dirt. The wide bar-hinge allows for a 180-degree opening angle of the screen, and there is no wobble at all. Unfortunately, the screen can not be opened with one finger, though.
Connectivity: Intel also as the Wi-Fi solution
No differences exist in terms of the port selection when comparing the T14s Gen 6 Intel with its T14s Gen 6 AMD counterpart. It has a nice mix of legacy ports and modern ones like Thunderbolt 4, though we do not like the positioning of the USB ports.
Different from the other T14s models, this one uses Intel Wi-Fi - the BE201 works great and enables high transfer rates. 5G/LTE is prepared, antennas, an open M.2 slot and a SIM slot are present.
Lenovo puts in a good webcam into the T14s Gen 6, which offers a high resolution of 5 Mpix. This means that the T14s Gen 6 has a better webcam than the more expensive ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 - puzzling positioning by Lenovo.

Input Devices: Excellent ThinkPad keyboard
Lenovo uses the same input devices across the whole T14s Gen 6 lineup. Both the 1.5mm travel backlight keyboard (two settings) and the touchpad plus TrackPoint are excellent. Typing feel and the layout of the keyboard are above reproach. The touchpad is a level below the keyboard, due to being slightly small and the plastic surface, but it overall works very well. The TrackPoint pointing stick provides a great option, too.
Display: Matte low power screen now brighter
At the moment, the full range of screen options is not yet available for the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Intel. There are two options as of this review, both of them matte 14-inch IPS 16:10 screens:
- WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200), 400 cd/m², 45 % NTSC, multitouch
- WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200), 500 cd/m², 100 % sRGB, low power
The panel does not quite reach the promised 500 cd/m² - on average, it has a brightness of 475 cd/m². That still makes it one of the brightest screens in our comparison, and also noticeable brighter than the WUXGA low power screen of the preceding ThinkPad T14s Gen 5.
As usual for low power IPS screens, it is a pretty slow panel. It might be worth waiting for the OLED option if you want to use the screen to watch videos or play games, as the OLED panels in the comparison are much faster and also offer higher refresh rates of 120 Hz.

Colors look a bit cold with the factory profile, which we measured with Calman and the X-Rite i1Pro 3. After a calibration with the X-Rite i1Profiler, the colors are mostly neutral, apart from the red spectrum. The profile we created is available to download for free in the gray box above, as always.
Lenovo promises 100 percent sRGB, we measure 97 percent. This panel is thus suitable for some light photo editing, as it is capable to display the most widely used color gamut.

Performance: Lunar Lake shows strong efficiency
As of this review, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Intel is only offered with Intel Lunar Lake CPUs, though Arrow Lake options are supposed to be available at a later date. The Lunar Lake CPUs are as follows: Intel Core Ultra 5 228V, Core Ultra 5 238V, Core Ultra 7 258V, Core Ultra 7 268V. All units are equipped with an Intel iGPU, dedicated Nvidia GPUs have not been part of the ThinkPad T400s/T14s series since 2019's ThinkPad T490s. Depending on the processor used, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G6 Intel contains either the Intel ARC 130V or the ARC 140V.
RAM is soldered and part of the CPU package for the Lunar Lake CPUs - all models currently available have 32 GB of LPDDR5X-8533 RAM. A single M.2 2280 SSD serves as storage - Lenovo offers up to 2 TB, with both PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0 SSDs available.
Testing Conditions
Lenovo makes use of the Windows energy settings for their energy profiles. There are three distinct profiles that influence the processor power limit and thus the power consumption, performance and heat/noise emissions of the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Intel. The power limit 1 (PL1) describes the performance under sustained load, while the power limit 2 describes the short term maximum power consumption:
- Best battery life: PL1 10 W / PL2 30 W
- Balanced: PL1 17 W / PL2 30 W
- Best performance: PL1 20 W / PL2 35 W
All benchmarks were performed in the "Best performance" mode.
Processor
The Intel Core Ultra 228V is the lowest-end CPU of the Lunar Lake portfolio with 32 GB of on-Package RAM. The octa-core chip has four big "Lion Cove" P cores and four small "Skymont" E cores, clock rates range from 2.1 to 4.5 GHz. This processor supports a range of TDP settings, going from as low as 9 W to as high as 37 W. Comparisons with other processors are possible with our CPU comparison list.
Before we get to the raw performance, let's take a look at the power efficiency - with the T14s Gen 6, we have CPU offerings from all three big suppliers of the Windows world. Of the three, the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite version clearly achieves the best power efficiency. The difference is biggest when all cores are stressed, but also substantial for singlecore load. Overall, Lunar Lake takes second place behind the ARM offering. The AMD Strix Point version achieves parity in multicore-load, but trails behind when it comes to singlecore performance. In any case, the ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 is a much more efficient device than the ThinkPad T14s Gen 5.

The overall performance is similar to the ThinkPad T14s Gen 5, the ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Intel just does it with a lower power consumption. AMD's solution has the leg up in performance - Strix Point outperforms Lunar Lake in both singlecore and multicore performance, albeit at the cost of a higher power draw. It is different when comparing to the ThinkPad T14s G6 Qualcomm, which we do by looking at Cinebench 2024, as that benchmark runs native on the Snapdragon CPU: The Intel version is actually slightly faster in singlecore loads, which means that the Qualcomm model has a lower power draw here. On the other hand, the Snapdragon model even outdoes the AMD version when all cores are used.
Overall, the Intel model can offer a better efficiency than the AMD model, but a lower performance. The Qualcomm version is great in both regards, but only when it runs native applications.
We did not detect any throttling when the device ran on battery power.

Storage Devices
The Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Intel uses a fast NVMe PCIe 5.0 SSD. The drive that is made by SK hynix has a capacity of 1 TB. Unfortunately, we experienced some throttling, although it remains fast even in its throttled state.

GPU Performance
Featuring the lower end GPU solution Intel ARC 130V, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 Intel still handily beats the ThinkPad T14s Gen 5 when it comes to graphics performance. It is even faster than the AMD Radeon 880M of the ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 AMD, as well. The ARC GPU is capable of running some newer games, though if you want to do that with the ThinkPad, choosing an Ultra 7 with the ARC 140V might still be the best idea.
