Verdict - ThinkPad T14s 2-in-1 with room for improvements
The new ThinkPad T14s 2-in-1 Gen.1 is Lenovo's latest 14-inch business convertible, but it raises some questions after our review. The regular ThinkPad T14s is a slim business laptop, but the convertible version is quite bulky, which is mainly a result of the thick lid. It does not make a whole lot of sense to combine an Arrow Lake processor with onboard memory. The power limits are also pretty low, so a Lunar Lake chip would have been the better choice for most users.
Considering the high price, the display does not really meet the expectations, either. The brightness is good, but a glossy 60 Hz screen with the Full-HD resolution for $2000 is a bit sobering. You do get plenty of features including SmartCard reader, Wi-Fi 7, Thunderbolt 4, a 5 MP webcam as well as a 5G module. The battery runtime is also good.
The two biggest rivals are the more expensive ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 as well as the HP EliteBook X Flip, which also offers a slightly better keyboard. You should avoid the Sure View screen though. All in all, the new ThinkPad T14s 2-in-1 is a good business convertible, but there is definitely room for improvements.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
You can configure the T14s 2-in-1 in Lenovo's online shop starting at $1230 and our review spec costs ~$2000.
The ThinkPad T14s 2-in-1 is a completely new business convertible with Intel Arrow Lake processors and sits below the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 in the product lineup. Our review unit for around $2000 is equipped with the Core Ultra 7 255U, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, Full-HD touchscreen and 5G connectivity.
Specifications
Case & Connectivity
The new ThinkPad T14s 2-in-1 does not offer any surprises in terms of design, but it is surprisingly bulky. This is mainly a result of the comparatively thick lid (~7 mm) and is surprising, because the ThinkPad T14s is the slimmer version of the regular T14. The stability of the chassis (magnesium/aluminum alloy) is very good overall and the slightly rubberized surfaces leave a very good quality impression. They are also not as prone to fingerprints. It is a convertible, so you can flip the display, but the hinges are quite firm and you can hardly open the lid with just one hand. Maintenance options are limited with soldered RAM and Wi-Fi module, only the M.2-2280 SSD and the battery can be replaced if necessary.
You get all the important connectivity options including Thunderbolt 4 and also a SmartCard reader on our review spec. The 5 MP webcam (including mechanical shutter & IR module) takes decent pictures and studio effects are supported, but it is not a Copilot+ laptop. In addition to the Wi-Fi 7 module, our review unit also features a 5G module in combination with a Nano-SIM slot (eSIM possible as well).

Input Devices - ThinkPad with active stylus
The black keyboard meets the current ThinkPad standard, so you get a decent keyboard with two-stage illumination. The layout does not hold any surprises and the power button (which also accommodates the fingerprint scanner) is right next to the keyboard. All in all, we are still a bit disappointed, because the typing experience is no highlight anymore and more and more rivals beat Lenovo in this regard. The TrackPoint works well, but the accompanying buttons are a bit loud and obviously limit the height of the clickpad as well. The latter offers good gliding capabilities and the mechanical clicks are not too loud. The active stylus holds magnetically at the ride side of the display and works very well.
Display - IPS touchscreen with 60 Hz
Our review unit is equipped with the optional 14-icnh IPS touchscreen (LowPower, 500 nits) with a glossy surface, while the default panel reaches 400 nits with limited color gamut. There is also an optional ePrivacy option with integrated privacy filter, but we would not recommend this model. Lenovo does not offer screens with higher resolutions.
The overall image quality of our unit is decent, because contents are still crisp (1920 x 1200 pixels, 16:10). There is no grainy image impression due to the touchscreen, either, and we did not detect any PWM flickering. However, the refresh rate is limited to just 60 Hz and the response times are not very fast. Reflections on the screen are also an issue. You do not get a brightness sensor, and the brightness control is not adjusted very well. At 90 %, the brightness already drops to 236 nits and just 142 nits at 80 %.
We measure maximum brightness levels of more than 500 nits and the contrast ratio of up to 1876:1 is also very good, but the factory color profile suffers from a visible blue cast in combination with a cool color temperature. Our own calibration (the according profile can be downloaded for free from the box below) improves the image quality significantly and thanks to the full sRGB color gamut, it is no problem to edit pictures/videos.

Performance - Intel Arrow Lake-U
Lenovo equips the T14s 2-in-1 with Intel Arrow Lake CPUs (U- or H-series), which are combined with onboard memory (up to 64 GB LPDDR5x-7467). The upgrade from 32 to 64 GB RAM costs $140.
Review settings
Lenovo's power profiles are directly linked to the Windows power settings. We used the mode Best Performance for our benchmarks and measurements.
Processor - Core Ultra 7 255U
Our T14s 2-in-1 is equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 7 255U (Arrow Lake), which offers two performance and ten efficiency cores. The peak consumption is 57 Watts for a couple of seconds, but it will level off at just 24 Watts for sustained workloads. All in all, the CPU performance is pretty low and the single-core performance in particular is lacking compared to Intel's Lunar Lake chips. We suspect that the optional H-series CPUs will not perform that much better and considering the soldered RAM, a Lunar Lake processor would have been the better choice. The performance is stable on battery power.

GPU Performance
The Core Ultra 7 255U is equipped with the slow Intel Graphics (4-core) iGPU, which does not offer a lot of performance. It is usually sufficient for everyday office tasks, but a Lunar lake processor with faster iGPUs would once again be the better choice (almost twice as fast). The gaming performance is also very limited.

Power consumption
The ThinkPad is very efficient overall and does not require a lot of power while idling, despite the good brightness levels. We can measure up to 67 Watts under load for a short period, but it quickly levels off at 45 and later 34 Watts. This means the compact 65W power adapter is sufficient.
