Huawei has expanded its on recent teasers relating to its next foldable smartphone release. To recap, the company confirmed that the Mate X7 rather than the Mate X8 would be joining the Mate 80 series during a November 25 launch event. Unfortunately Huawei will confine this event to China, as it often does with new product releases.
While claims of a Mate X8 this year were wide of the mark, prior reports that the Mate X series would be receiving a design refresh this generation were accurate. This time around, Huawei has decided to integrate a frankly massive camera housing that easily surpasses the equivalent in the Honor Magic V5, let alone Google and Samsung's more modest implementations in the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Galaxy Z Fold7 (curr. $1,599 on Amazon), respectively.
Nonetheless, the Mate X7 contains just three rear-facing cameras. Still, Huawei is reported to have included a 50 MP variable aperture primary camera, as well as a periscope telephoto that should get close to the camera capabilities of the Mate 80 Pro. Additionally, the foldable is IP59 certified against dust and water ingress, the strength of which Huawei has highlighted in the teaser video reproduced below.
Moreover, Digital Chat Station alleges that the Mate X7 will launch with Huawei's Kirin 9030 chipset rather than the Kirin 9020 that underpins its predecessor. Purportedly, Huawei will sell the Mate X7 in 12 GB, 16 GB and 20 GB of RAM variants too, with up to 1 TB of storage as well. Details about an international launch remain unknown for now, though.
