All but Huawei and Xiaomi have now introduced next-generation conventional book-style foldables, whether that be Google with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Vivo with the X Fold5, Honor's Magic V5, Oppo and its Find N5 or Samsung and the Galaxy Z Fold7 (curr. $1,699 on Amazon). Neither Huawei nor Xiaomi are believed to have stepped away from the book-style foldable market, though.
Reportedly, Xiaomi is set to launch the Xiaomi 17 Fold early next year, with the company allegedly having pivoted away from its Mix Fold series. Meanwhile, recent rumours indicated that Huawei was working towards unveiling the Mate X7 before a November reveal in China. However, newer reports suggest that Huawei could skip over the Mate X7 altogether just as it did between the Mate X3 and Mate X5.
In short, the number 7 is associated with multiple meanings in Chinese numerology. While often considered lucky, 7 is also linked with disappointments and challenges, in simple terms. Accordingly, accessories manufacturers have apparently been spotted associating screen protectors and cases with the Mate X8 instead of the Mate X7.
Setting that aside, Huawei's next Mate X foldable is said to feature 20 GB of RAM, up from 16 GB of RAM in the Mate X6. Moreover, Fixed Focus Digital claims that the same device is set to launch with a 'major makeover' compared to last year's model. While the exact design remains unknown for now, the same source has shared a few concept drawings that we have embedded above and below. By implication, one is closer to the final design than the others, although Fixed Focus Digital has not elaborated further yet.
