Xiaomi is expected to move foldable development under its main line flagship series with its next release. As we have covered separately, the so-called Xiaomi 17 Fold could launch in early 2026. On the basis of early evidence, Xiaomi plans to take the fight directly to Samsung and the Galaxy Z Fold7 when it comes to camera hardware too (curr. $1,899 on Amazon).
According to XiaomiTime, HyperOS code includes references to the camera hardware for 'pecan', an alleged codename for the Xiaomi 17 Fold. As the image below shows, pecan features the S5KHP5 as its wide or primary camera. Short for Samsung ISOCELL HP5, the S5KHP5 has a 200 MP native output and is slated to be used in devices like the Find X9 Pro as a telephoto camera.
Additionally, the evidence presented so far indicates that the Xiaomi 17 Fold will also feature 50 MP OmniVision OV50M sensors as its ultra-wide-angle and cover display cameras. Meanwhile, the internal selfie optics will be handled by the OmniVision OV16F, a 16 MP sensor that Xiaomi already uses inside the Mix Fold 4. Apparently, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset will be onboard too, full launch details of which we have provided in a dedicated launch article.
