Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE could come with a major upgrade over Z Flip 7 FE
Samsung is working on its next generation of foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Flip 8. What’s also in the pipeline is the successor to its cheapest foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE. A new leak showing the model numbers for these upcoming phones suggests that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE could come with a major upgrade over the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE.
Android Authority has been able to uncover the list of model numbers that are expected to be associated with the 2026 lineup of Samsung’s flagships. These model numbers include the three foldables as well - Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Galaxy Z Flip 8, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE. While the changes in model numbers for most of the lineup are in line with previous years, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE seems to be getting special treatment.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE is said to have the model number SM-F971. Looking at the model number of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE – SM-F761 – Samsung has decided to go with a seemingly much more advanced model number. To put things into perspective, the model number for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is SM-F766 and its successor is expected to have the model SM-F776. Similarly, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has the model number SM-F966 and the successor is said to come with model number SM-F976. These two have a difference of 10 while the Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE has a difference of 210. The difference compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6/ Flip 6 was also on the same lines, albeit there wasn't a Z Flip 6 FE for comparison.
Note that this is pure speculation and there is no other evidence to support this claim. That being said, this major jump in model numbers could signify some kind of key difference or upgrade for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE. Possibly a larger cover display that spans the entire front of the phone like the Galaxy Z Flip 7. But, seeing has how the Z Flip 8 doesn't get a similar model number jump, it could just be only iterative changes. It’s too early to say as there haven’t been any leaks or rumors about the Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE yet. The Galaxy Z Flip 8, on the other hand, is expected to come with a much thinner clamshell foldable form factor.
That being said, the next generation foldables are quite far away at this point and more juicy leaks and rumors should start circulating early to mid-next year.
