First evidence of Samsung testing One UI 9 on new Fold, Z Fold 8, and Z Flip 8 spotted

Samsung is yet to release One UI 8.5 for its currently available Galaxy lineup but leaks about the next generation devices, and the next OS, have already started surfacing. The Galaxy S26 series will be unveiled later this month but then in September, the new foldables are expected to be announced. Those will likely come out with One UI 9, and evidence of that has been spotted and shared by a known leaker.
The information comes courtesy of Tarun Vats on X who has a solid track record of Samsung smartphone related leaks. The posts show test builds of One UI 9 for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, believed to have the codename SM-F776U and Galaxy Z Fold 8, believed to have the codename SM-976U. The respective build numbers that have been spotted are F776USQU0AZB1/F776UOYN0AZB1/F776USQU0AZB1 (typically for different regions) and F976USQU0AZB1/F976UOYN0AZB1/F976USQU0AZB1. This suggests One UI 9 is being tested on the new foldables.
Additionally, Samsung is also reportedly working on another Fold phone that will go up against Apple’s first foldable. It is said to have a more wide/square-ish aspect ratio. This device is believed to have the codename SM-F971U and another build referencing this device – F971USQU0AZB1 – has been spotted as well.
This is the first time these builds have surfaced and it seems like production and development at Samsung has been moving forward relatively smoothly. That being said, it was recently reported that the Galaxy S26 series will succumb to price hikes brought in by skyrocketing DRAM prices. The Korean pricing for the series was just leaked and all three phones are a bit more expensive than their predecessors. The same can be expected for the US as well.
