The Xiaomi 18 has been tipped to depart from its predecessor's design in a crucial area. Surprisingly, Xiaomi's next compact flagship could look more like recent Pro iPhones than the current iPhone 17.

The launch of the Xiaomi 18 series is still thought to be around seven months away. As it stands, the Xiaomi 18, Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max have been tipped to launch in September. Currently, the trio are also believed to be some of the first smartphones that will ship with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 series chipsets.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max are reported to be in contention for the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, too. By contrast, the Xiaomi 18 is rumoured to be the only one of the three that leverages Qualcomm's standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. Not only that, but a new rumour for a widely regarded Weibo user suggest that the Xiaomi 18 will also depart from its predecessor's design, not least with a larger display.

Embedded below, the revised camera design is remisicient of the one that Apple maintained between the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro (curr. $696 - refurbished on Amazon). It is worth stressing that the design shown is not official. Instead, it has likely been photshopped together or AI generated. Nonetheless, the design shown could still be correct. Presumably, we will not know for certain until the summer at the earliest, though.
