Conclusion - The biggest differences are in the zoom function
The main cameras of all foldables take good pictures in the review. Your own taste should be the deciding factor here, as there are visible differences, especially in colour matching. Samsung certainly stands out here on paper with its 200-MPix sensor, but in everyday use this is hardly decisive.
Just how secondary resolution can be is quite clear when looking at images taken with ultra-wide-angle lenses, which are rarely entirely convincing, especially when it comes to panoramas. However, things can look very different in the macro range. Clear differences can be seen when zooming, however. Here, the Magic V5 is clearly ahead of the pack.
In this review, we want to compare the four best foldable cameras and find out which one takes the best photos. We selected the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, the Honor Magic V5, the Oppo Find N5 and the Huawei Mate X6 for this purpose. The Vivo X Fold 5 would certainly have been a good addition to the comparison, but it was no longer available for testing.
First, we will briefly examine the camera features, after which you can form your own opinion of the imaging performance by looking at the comparison photos.
Honor Magic V5
The Honor Magic V5 offers a triple camera system based on a 50 MP main camera (with OIS). Honor also includes an ultra-wide-angle camera with a resolution of 50 MP, which can also be used for macro photography. The highlight, however, is the 64 MP periscope zoom (with OIS), which offers 3x optical zoom (70 mm) and a virtually lossless 6x crop zoom (140 mm). A maximum enlargement of 100x is possible, and from a 30x digital zoom onwards, it is also possible to have the images optimised with AI.
Huawei Mate X6
The Huawei Mate X6 is the longest-serving foldable in the comparison field. The X6 houses a total of four lenses in its camera bump. The main camera delivers 50 MPix and has a flexible aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0 and can rely on optical image stabilisation (OIS). Huawei also includes a 40 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and an optical telephoto zoom with 4x magnification (96 mm), OIS and 48 MP. Both lenses are macro-capable. A maximum zoom of 100x is possible. Behind the fourth aperture is an Ultra Chroma camera with 1,500,000 spectral channels.
Oppo Find N5
The Oppo Find N5 offers three cameras. The main lens supports 50 MPix and OIS, complemented by an 8 MPix ultra-wide angle lens and a 3x optical zoom (with OIS). Here, too, both additional lenses can be used for macro photography. Oppo is also collaborating with Swedish camera manufacturer Hasselblad to optimise the photography experience.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 also features a triple camera and can draw on the 200 MPix sensor with OIS from the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The two additional lenses have significantly lower resolutions. The 3x optical zoom (69 mm, OIS) has only 10 MPix and the ultra-wide angle 12 MPix. This lens also serves as a macro lens.
Main camera – Much is a matter of preference
When taking photos with the main camera, the comparison field is very close together and there is not much difference in image quality. The Magic V5 only has slight problems with the moving water in the first scene. Depending on the image section, all manufacturers show slight blurring or refocusing over large areas.
However, the colour balance and dynamics vary greatly. Huawei and Samsung tend to leave shadows as shadows, while Oppo and Honor offer maximum dynamics. Honor also goes deeper into the colour saturation than its competitors.

GrachtStadtmauerRuineU-BootHaseZooming - The Magic V5 excels
Samsung has certainly devoted the least resources to zooming, as its sensor has a low resolution and is not entirely convincing in terms of optical imaging. The Mate X6 is at a slight disadvantage here, as it is the only foldable to feature a 4x zoom, which is not shown here, but the quality also visibly deteriorates at higher zoom levels.
The Find N5 and, in particular, the Magic V5 perform noticeably better in this regard. At 3x and 6x magnification, the Honor smartphone stands out and, thanks to AI support, also delivers the most impressive results at 30x zoom. Only at 10x magnification does the Oppo perform better.
Additional modes - Resolution is not everything
When it comes to ultra-wide-angle shots, it quickly becomes clear that resolution isn't everything. The shot of the museum is impressive even on the Find N5 with only 8 MPix. In contrast, all lenses lose a lot of detail in the street scene, and text is often difficult to read.
The macro shots were all taken with the ultra-wide-angle lens. Samsung and Huawei perform best here, as colours and sharpness are well balanced. The Mate X6 stands out particularly well in the picture of the spider.
In low light, all foldables still deliver decent results. However, they set very different priorities in automatic mode. Samsung enhances contrast for clear contours, while Oppo and Honor aim to capture as much light as possible, which comes at the expense of detail. Huawei tries to strike a balance, but still loses some detail.
