Qualcomm has now announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a direct replacement for the Snapdragon 8 Elite that powers the Galaxy S25 Ultra, OnePlus 13 (curr. $929 on Amazon) and other current-generation flagships. While the recent MediaTek Dimensity 9500 utilises ARM's Lumex platform, Qualcomm bases the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 around its 3rd Gen Oryon CPU cores.
According to Qualcomm, its new CPU cores deliver 20% performance gains on those found in the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Not only that, but the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5's integrated GPU is said to enjoy up to a 23% advantage over the Adreno 830 underpinning the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Similarly, the new chipset's Hexagon NPU is allegedly 37% faster than its predecessor.
Moreover, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 integrates Qualcomm's X85 5G modem that the company showcased earlier this year during MWC 2025. Elsewhere, Qualcomm boasts that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is also the 'world's first mobile platform' to support the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec, which should bring higher-quality video recording capabilities to future Android flagships.
With that in mind, Qualcomm has confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will find its way into devices produced by Asus ROG, Honor, iQOO, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, Poco, Realme, Redmi, RedMagic, Samsung, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE. Qualcomm adds that Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-backed smartphones will start arriving 'in the coming days'. Currently, only the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max have been officially confirmed to be launching this month powered by Qualcomm's latest flagship mobile silicon.
