Oppo has confirmed the existence of its next major tablet release after launching the Pad 4 Pro earlier this year. For context, OnePlus sells the same tablet as the Pad 2 Pro in China and the Pad 3 globally (curr. $608 on Amazon). Ultimately, all feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which can now be found inside the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro but has since been surpassed by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
By contrast, Oppo is expected to turn to MediaTek rather than Qualcomm for the upcoming Pad 5. For the time being, Oppo has not confirmed as much. Instead, it has focused on the experiences that the Pad 5 will offer, including advanced multitasking thanks to ColorOS 16. By the looks of things, the multitasking on show is a continuation of Split View and Boundless View, the latter of which is more commonly known as Open Canvas on OnePlus devices.
Regardless, the Oppo Pad 5 will receive a world premiere on October 16 to coincide with the arrival of the Find X9 and Find X9 Pro in China. According to leakers like Digital Chat Station, the Pad 5 will line up with a MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ chipset, 67 W charging for its 10,300 mAh battery and a 12.1-inch IPS display that combines a 3K+ resolution with a 144 Hz refresh rate. It remains to be seen whether Oppo plans to release the Pad 5 globally though, despite indicating that it will give the tablet a world premiere in a few weeks' time.
