Xiaomi has now introduced the Pad 8 in China, one of two tablets that the company has released today alongside the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Arriving less than a year after the Pad 7, the Pad 8 features the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset as the Nothing Phone (3) and Poco F7 (curr. $524.99 on Amazon).
According to our benchmarks, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 should provide the Pad 8 with almost a 50% performance advantage over its predecessor. Seemingly, the Pad 8 retains the Pad 7's display though, with Xiaomi mentioning an 11.2-inch, 3,200 x 2,136-pixel (3:2), 144 Hz and 800-nit IPS display on its product page. Meanwhile, peak battery capacity has grown from 8,850 mAh to 9,200 mAh while retaining 45 W wired charging support.
The Pad 8 weighs slightly less than its predecessor too, at 485 g versus 500 g. Likewise, Xiaomi's new smaller flagship tablet drops to 5.75 mm in thickness for a 0.45 mm saving on the Pad 7. 8 MP front-facing and 13 MP rear-facing cameras return too, though.
The Xiaomi Pad 8 starts at CNY 2,199 (~$308) with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, but rises to CNY 2,999 (~$420) with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage in Xiaomi's 'Soft Glow' edition. Like the Pad 8 Pro, the Pad 8 can be optioned with keyboard and stylus accessories that bear more than a passing resemblance to those that Apple already sells for its iPad Pro 11 and iPad Pro 13 tablets.
