To avoid another PS5 price increase, a revised version of the digital console with less storage recently surfaced in Europe. Now, reliable leaker billbil-kun reports that a modified PS5 Pro is also on the way. With significant changes to its specs doubtful, the console will remain at its €799.99 MSRP.
Billbil-kun expects the PS5 Pro, with model number CFI-7121, to appear at retailers as soon as September 30th. As with the updated PS5 Digital Edition, Sony’s most powerful console will debut in Europe. However, a wider future release in other regions is also possible.
With the PS5 Pro price unaltered, it will include the standard storage capacity of 2TB. Its appearance may also be identical, though some gamers have called for a slimmer design. That leaves the question of what, if anything, Sony has tweaked with the gaming system.
Why Sony is revising the PS5 Pro
One likely explanation is that the manufacturer has found cheaper components that don’t impact performance. Or, the revised console would be more power-efficient, despite its more potent GPU. Sony recently introduced a power-saving mode to the PS5 to achieve the same objective.
Unlike other PS5 models in Europe, the PS5 Pro price has not inflated since its November 2024 release date. U.S. gamers weren’t so lucky, with the system seeing a $50 increase to $749.99. The CFI-7121 model will hopefully avoid stretching budgets further, without compromising on features.
The PS5 Pro has also come under fire for not offering enough advantages over its more affordable alternatives. Without a performance patch, games like Borderlands 4 struggle to produce smooth visuals. Other PS5 Pro Enhanced games, with Silent Hill f as an example, exhibit flickering as a result of PSSR upscaling. Without more consistent support for the console, buyers may resist any price increase.
