Microsoft has announced another round of price increases for Xbox Series X and Series S consoles in the United States, marking the second time this year the gaming giant has raised hardware costs. The new pricing takes effect on October 3, adding between $20 and $70 to various console models.

Microsoft is raising Xbox console prices for the second time in 2025, with increases ranging from $20 to $70 per model starting October 3. This follows a price hike in May, which brings the total increases to $150 for some consoles within six months.

The upcoming price adjustments affect all current-generation Xbox consoles exclusively in the United States market. The standard Xbox Series X will jump to $649.99 from $599.99, while the entry-level Xbox Series S increases to $399.99 from $379.99. Meanwhile, the premium Galaxy Black Special Edition will see a $70 increase, which brings the price to $799.99.

For US gamers, the window to purchase consoles at current prices closes rapidly. Retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart, maintain existing pricing through October 2.

At the moment, Xbox consoles are available at Amazon at the following prices -

Microsoft attributes these adjustments to "changes in the macroeconomic environment," which industry analysts have translated as tariff-related cost pressures. The recent trade policies have imposed duties ranging from 10% to 40% on various electronic components manufactured in China, Vietnam, and India. Plus, gaming consoles lack the exemptions granted to smartphones and computer parts, making them particularly vulnerable to maximum tariff impacts.

This new change places Microsoft alongside competitors Sony and Nintendo, both of whom implemented their own price increases recently. Sony raised PlayStation 5 console prices by approximately $50 in August, while Nintendo raised Switch console and accessory prices following the Switch 2 announcement.

The company has attempted to soften the impact by maintaining current prices for controllers and headsets while limiting increases to US markets only. International pricing remains unchanged for now, though Microsoft previously implemented global price hikes during the May adjustment.
