Trek has officially unveiled its first-ever electric gravel bike, the Checkpoint+, globally. The company’s new e-bike brings a new high-performance powertrain, sleek and minimalist design, and a sturdy frame. To be more exact, the Checkpoint+ features an OCLV carbon frame, which is the same frame material found on the Trek’s 500 series.
Trek has incorporated German motor maker TQ’s latest HPR60 motor into the Checkpoint+, which offers 350 W of peak power and 60 Nm of torque. Speaking of speed, the motor offers a top speed of 28 mph (45 km/h) in the US. Unfortunately, the e-bike has no throttle option, as the e-bike is offered in pedal assist only. The new HPR60 motor is slimmer and lighter compared to the Trek Domane+ SLR’s HPR50 motor.
On the positive side, at the heart of the new Checkpoint+ is a 360 Wh internal battery and according to the brand, it offers 50 miles (80.4 km) of range between charges. Additionally, riders can also extend the range by 44%, thanks to the 160 Wh range extender. Like other Trek e-bikes, the e-bike also offers dozens of mounting points for racks, bags, bottle cages, and fenders.
Trek has introduced a total of three variants in the Checkpoint+ lineup: the SL 5, the SL 6 AXS, and the high-end SL 7 AXS, which is equipped with SRAM XO Eagle transmission, carbon wheels, and a 40 mm RockShox Rudy suspension fork. While the SL 5 and SL 6 are paired with carbon forks and SRAM GX AXS drivetrains.
The Trek Checkpoint+ SL 5, the SL 6 AXS, and the high-end SL 7 AXS are priced at $5,999, $6,599, and $7,999, respectively. For more details, please visit the Trek Checkpoint+ official product page.
